Flute Fantasy

Music Issue 77 Jul, 2010

Scriptures abound with the mesmerizing tales of sounds of a flute. Every being, animal or human, would follow the hypnotic sound of divinity as lord Krishna played his flute. Flutes Fantasy, a musical album by Gaurav Bomjon is another instance to prove the flute’s charm. The album is an endless musical journey and is a result of five years of labor on Bomjan’s part. A listener will agree that the artist’s efforts are worth the time spent in compiling the album. It  can be considered a semi-classical, fusion album with melodies to enthrall all. The album has sounds of the flute, guitar, tabla, bass and shahanai, all of which blends together to produce an ethereal euphony. According to the artist, Flute Fantasy is an expression of feelings of the heart and mind that cannot be
expressed.

The album starts with Eternal Sunshine which is soft to the hearing and has a story to tell. This is followed by Live in Kathmandu, which is louder and possesses a sense of energy and vitality that the city exudes. Tracks like Are You Happy with Me, Endless Love and Hard to Say Goodbye touch the soul with their intensity. Dib-Da-Be-Da-Da is another track which automatically captures the mind and the rhythm lingers on. Passing Mountains is the last track of the album and is a Shahanai solo by Umesh Pandit. All the musics of the album are arranged and composed by Gaurav Bomjan, while Umesh Pandit is the young and prospering flutist who enchants us with his wonderful sounds. Even the guitar shines equally with its melodious and soulful rhythm while the tabla beats are simply awesome. The album unfailingly creates atmosphere to relax and rejoice. And the pleasent compositions and their international sound quality add to the fluet fantasy.
