Thundering Hooves

The festival of the horses, Ghode Jatra, is an annual event that is held smack bang in the center of Kathmandu, that is, Tundikhel, that vast expanse of open space near New Road. It’s an occasion to display the prowess of our army’s skilled riders, who leave no stone un-trampled to show off their horsemanship. And, with the President and Prime Minister in attendance, along with high ranking government officials and ambassadors of different embassies, along with their spouses, they couldn’t ask for a more dignified audience. Thus, Ghode Jatra is a spectacular festival, one that’s full of pomp and ceremony; the thundering hooves of a score and more magnificent mounts beating a fast-paced tempo of joie de vivre throughout the day.
