A journey to great heights

This was my third trek to Annapurna Base Camp since 2005. I trekked to ABC for the first time in 2000 and was using a film camera then. This time around, I was fully prepared with professional gear to capture the raw beauty of the mighty Himalayas.

My aim was to get breath-taking shots as well as to explore the routes and services available to the trekkers, details that would help me plan my next trip with guests from abroad. So, instead of just enjoying and capturing the scenery alone, I studied infrastructural development, local hoteliers’ challenges and future master-plans required to uplift the area and the overall tourism sector in Nepal.

I discovered that the villagers and hoteliers deal with the provision of all the services on their own. This includes producing electricity, connecting to the world through satellites, facilitating water supply and even managing routes and other services to the tourists via the committees they have initiated. If there are added proper guidelines and if we can set some basic infrastructures to these areas, I think there’s a possibility that we can increase the tourist flow by greater volumes.
The ABC trek exposes you to beauty and also to so much more potential.

Here are some of the best photos of my journey to the heart of the Annapurna region.
