Come Adventuring With Us

This month’s edition of ECS—our annual Adventure Sports Special Issue—has been both fun and informative to put together. Fun, because we learned so much about exciting things to do, some of which we hadn’t been as aware of previously. And informative, because we got to talk to some amazing people who have done, and are continuing to do, some truly amazing feats. We were inspired to learn about what local greats Sanjay Pandit and Mira Rai are doing on the international stage, and we think you’ll be, too.

One of the few people to have taken to the slopes in Nepal, Richard Ragan, tells some stories about his time here. An article on how far ACAP has come contains fascinating history, and there’s also a tale of H.W. Tilman, early mountaineer turned inadvertent trekker, who was one of the first early trekkers here to write of his experiences. A more modern day experience takes us along on a trek to the Langtang area, in the winter and after the earthquake that changed everything. It’s a story that’s fun but also moving at times, and like the other articles in this issue, we hope that it encourages you to get out there and have a little adventuring yourself.

To that end, you can also read about places to go that are a stone’s throw from home—canyoning, and even paragliding, here in Kathmandu Valley, or a short drive away up by the Bhote Koshi. Or perhaps the photos from Everest will encourage you to go a little farther. Either way, if you’ve been somewhere and have a tale you’d like to tell, consider getting in touch at evangeline.ecsmedia@gmail.com, we’re always on the lookout for a great story.

The above is just a sampler. There’s a lot more in these pages, so dig in, enjoy. We hope this edition serves as the fuel to power your dreams and inspire your own adventures.
