Members of the RoyalNepal Golf Club were having fun on 10th of May as they took part in the Soaltee Crown Plaza Annual Golf Tournament 2008. The tournament was held at the Royal Nepal Golf Course, the oldest and best known golf course in Nepal. Located in the vicinity of the airport, the golf course has a yardage of 5410 with 18 Holes. The course is developed on the sloping land between the airstrip and Tilganga.

The golfers at the tournament, therefore, faced difficult putts on the large, severely sloped putting surfaces. The combination of slopes and size, however, gave the participants plenty of room to work on their short games. As the tournament began, some golfers were seen hopping between tee boxes, while others were found trying to concentrate hard on their tempo for a tap-in, if not a hole-in-one! Later in the evening, a prize-giving dinner was hosted at the poolside Soaltee Crowne Plaza, Kathmandu, to award the winners of the tournament to mark the first anniversary of an Indian restaurant Kakori-Cuisine E-xquisite.

Among the 83 participants, Sumitra Dayananda accumulated 40 points to become the winner in the overall category. On the other hand, Tashi Ghale claimed the men’s trophy by scoring 39 points, while Niraj Rana stood second with 36 points. In the women category, Kalyani Moktan and Shastika Shrestha came first and second scoring 31 and 29 points respectively. Other awards distributed under various categories include: the best gross award, the senior section award, most birdies, closest to the pin at Hole No. 18 and wooden spoon.

Veteran Indian actor Dev Anand, Chairman Emeritus of Soaltee Hotel Limited Prabhakar SJB Rana, Executive Chairman Dinesh Bista, General Manager Greesh Bindra, RNGC President Madhukar Yakthumba were present to hand over the awards to the winners. Apart from trophies the awards given to the winners included: tickets from Yeti Airlines International to Malaysia, Jet Airways to Delhi, and complementary stays at Holiday Inn Glenmarie Kuala Lumpur, Crowne Plaza Delhi, Crowne Plaza Today Gurgaon, Holiday Inn Bangkok and Crowne Plaza Mutiara, Kuala Lumpur. Ambassadors, diplomats and top shots from the corporate world and social circles were among those present at the evening function.
