Text by Asmi Banjara

Nepal is well known for its adventurous and thrilling activities that are varied and particularly enjoyable alongside the natural beauty of the country. With hot summer days now with us, here are five adrenaline filled trips that to bring you the perfect escape from a busy life to a rejuvinating yet action-packed getaway.

1.Rafting

I recently went rafting on the Bhote Koshi and had a very thrilling experience. It is the ideal place for white water rafting as it is a steep river that provides a most fun-filled rafting experience with the beauty of nature. It was both adventurous and entertaining and is perfect for those who are looking for a one day trip filled with intense rush and action with challenging class 3 to 4 rapids. Rafting can be done throughout the year and though the river is usually higher after monsoon, this year’s early rains mean it’s higher now than usually at this time.

2.Mountain Biking

While the city might be crowded, there are many exciting and adventurous trails for mountain biking on the edge of the Kathmandu Valley. If you’re not experienced, it might be a good idea to hire a guide, as many of the trails are old walkways that aren't on the maps. One popular biking area is the Shivapuri National Park—a trip that takes you on an immense journey of nature with exceptional temple sites as well. The trails connect through remote countryside and villages with a fair amount of climbs and descends, so perhaps try some easier trails first to get in shape!

3.Everest Mountain Flight

Whether you live here or are just visiting, experiencing the majestic Himalayan mountain ranges is a must and the Everest Mountain Flight a once in a lifetime way to experience them. This flight offers you the chance to be just 20 miles away from Everest and glimpse many other high peaks such as Makalu and Kanchenjunga. The hostess identifies the mountains as the pilot invites individuals to the flight deck to take pictures of the peaks through the big window. The flight is usually about an hour long and is offered by many different airlines such as Buddha Air and Yeti Air.

4.Bungee Jumping

Another adrenaline filled activity is bungee jumping which is the perfect venture for extreme adventure seekers. Bhote Koshi is yet another place that offers this excitement of jumping 500 ft, which is also the longest free fall in the world. The spectacular Swiss-designed suspension bridge was purpose-built and when you’ve had your jump, the are is full of beautiful nature and hikes you can enjoy.

5.Canyoning

Yet another water activity in Nepal that I found exhilarating was canyoning. Canyoning is a great adventure which I quickly realized does not only include abseiling but also many different activities such as sliding down rocks, climbing, diving and swimming in the pool below the waterfall. Jalbire Canyon is one of the most popular places to go canyoning in Nepal and includes a 20 minute hike up to the main waterfall which is about 95 meters high, as well as give other smaller waterfalls that are about 40-45 meters each. It’s sure to be a day you won’t forget!
